TR 2010 SHOPPING ASSIGNMENTS [DOWNLOAD PDF]
There has been great talk over the past 12 months on the next step of the ever-evolving Food/Beverage/Supply delegation for TR 2010. I’m happy to announce that the next step is upon us! We’ve made great strides in simplifying the process over the past 2 years as Pre-TR responsibilities have become increasingly delegated. The attached list not only includes shopping assignments, but also a simple breakdown of how I'm hoping to transport the community items to TR. If your transportation/shopping plans do not for some reason allow for what I have accounted for, please let me know ASAP.

The ultimate goals are to:

  • Ensure core menu items and communal supplies are available for all to enjoy
  • Provide a baseline supply of Beer (including a minimum supply of preferred, traditional beers – i.e. High Life, Old Style, etc.)
  • Minimize “Debt Settlement” following TR

To expand slightly on each of these points – The core menu items included in the communal shopping list are all Serbian items (purchased from DSD) and any menu items that are prepared once during the weekend and consumed by a majority of the group. These additional items include Saturday morning’s Jimmy Dean & potatoes breakfast, Sunday’s BBQ Pulled Pork lunch, OLAF Potatoes, Brats & Monica’s Dad’s Chicken. The inclusion of communal food preparation/waste management supplies is self explanatory. As for Beer, the list ensures we will have a minimum supply of our traditional “cheap beer” favorites at approximately 1 case per man. Keep in mind that this puts us at an average of 8 beers/day. I expect that many of us will choose to provide additional beer/liquor of our individual choices in anticipation of consuming more than 8 drinks/day. (Keep your thirsty ladies in mind as well)! I expect for the provided price estimates to be fairly accurate as I confirmed all prices at a local grocery store. We should all fall within $15 of one another and the only “debt settlement” will be in regards to reimbursements to Nutz for his purchase of Serbian Food. These are GREAT STRIDES from where we were 7 years ago!

Our average costs for this communal shopping effort fall between $50 - $65 per person for the weekend (with the exception of the rookie attendees, which in keeping with tradition, are granted a discounted rate). Our past TOTAL average cost per man since 2005 has been $130/man and an additional $65/woman. There will still, no doubt be quite a bit of individual shopping to do to fill out the overall food supply. Page 2 of the spreadsheet includes all food/beverage/supply items that were previously provided as community items as a guide for you to shop from. Of those items, simply purchase and bring quantities of which you (and your family) intend to consume/use. This will leave plenty of opportunity to not only tailor the Serb Fest menu to your individual tastes, but also give you more opportunity to control your overall costs.

SUGAR CREEK KAYAK/CANOE TRIP
Please be sure to have $10 cash per person on hand to pay for your kayak rental ($14/canoe). I will take care of renting kayaks for our immediate group. Crazy Dan, the Girls, and other Attendees will be responsible for reserving their own. You’ll need the cash to confirm the rental on Sunday morning. For anyone who needs to contact Sugar Creek Canoe Rentals, this is the website: http://sugarvalleycanoes.com/tripinfo.htm The anticipated trip will be the 11am departure of the 3 1/2 mile trip. Please reserve accordingly!

COOLER PACKING TIPS
I think it’s safe to say most of us are familiar with the traditional technique for packing ice into gallon zip-lock bags, so I’ll spare the details. As for the packing of meats, let me highly recommend repackaging all of it! Pack your Chicken breasts, Italian sausages, Brats, into smaller zip lock bags a few items at a time. Better yet, store those bags into plastic disposable “Tupperware” containers. This ensures protection of your food from melting ice and ensures that good food isn’t lost over the course of the weekend. Hell, it might even mean that leftovers can be saved beyond the weekend! Some of us have had great success with this over the past couple years. It also works great for lettuce, cheeses, etc. Simply remember, KEEP ALL FOOD WATER TIGHT SEALED!
